Service Learning
Students across the grades engage in service learning projects that connect to thematic curriculum for their grade. The service learning cycle includes research, discussions, field trips and volunteer work as students learn and work to make a difference in their world.
Examples of service learning projects include:
Elementary students learning about stewardship for the earth, exploring the challenge of pollution and participating in beach clean up to care for our local environment
Elementary students learning about how to honor our elders, learning folk songs and visiting a nearby elder-care facility to make connections and share their songs
Middle schoolers learning about the Shoah, cooking a meal to host survivors as part of Cafe Europa and interviewing survivors to help collect oral histories of the Shoah
Middle schoolers learning about global challenges to educational access and volunteering through Jewish Coalition for Literacy as reading buddies at Green Leaf Elementary School
