Joyful Jewish Learning at OHDS

The world of Jewish learning is so rich. It’s about our language. It’s about history. It’s about grappling with challenging texts and ethical questions. It’s about responsibility for our world. And it’s about feeling a sense of awe and gratitude and joy. When students get a chance to be part of an immersive Jewish learning experience they develop a deep feeling of ownership of who they are and they build true confidence that helps them go into the world with strength, clarity and an open-heart.

OHDS teaches and follows Modern Orthodox practices, while supporting each family’s מנהגים‎ or customs.

Examples:

  • From the high holidays that start with our school year through Passover and beyond, students learn about each holiday through project-based learning and festivities.

  • The Jewish approach to studying the world goes back thousand of years. We encourage students to follow in this tradition by digging deep into texts, forming their own arguments and understandings.

  • At OHDS students are invited to explore Jewish cultures from around the world, and understand their own family within broader Jewish history.
