Sixth Grade
Sixth graders go back to ancient times and study the building blocks of society, tracing the developments of early humans to the accomplishments of Mesopotamia and Egypt. Selected ancient writings and dystopian literature are integrated into the class in order to see how authors often reveal truth through fiction and to help students see the obstacles to creating a 'perfect' society.

Seventh Grade
Seventh graders build on their understanding of world history by studying works of literature and memoir from the Islamic world, the African continent, China, Latin America, and Europe. Curriculum explores themes around tension, power, colonization and globalization.

Eighth Grade
Eighth graders delve into the United States' rich 240-year history by examining the constant battle for freedom and equality. From the colonists’ stand at Lexington and Concord, to the freedom march from Selma to Montgomery, the American spirit was formed when people decided to take action. In this class, students examine what it means to be American and how this identity has evolved over time. We read a variety of primary sources from multiple perspectives, as well as quintessential pieces of American literature from authors such as Frederick Douglass, Mark Twain, and John Steinbeck.
