4th Grade In Depth

  • 4th Grade General Studies

In general studies fourth graders immerse in in-depth learning across subjects, honing their academic skills while igniting a genuine excitement for the content they study. From reading and writing to math, science and social studies, students encounter complex problems, complex informational and literary texts and complete complex writing assignments. As they engage with this increasing complexity, students benefit from instruction that helps them organize their ideas, structure their problem-solving strategies and learn from feedback to make improvements as they work. Students stretch their critical thinking skills as they encounter multiple historical perspectives, analyze nuances in literary characters, experiment with scientific principles and apply mathematical concepts to real world scenarios.

  • 4th Grade Judaic Studies

In Judaic studies fourth graders immerse in in-depth learning across Jewish subjects, honing their academic skills while igniting a genuine excitement for the content they study. Fourth grade students celebrate their Jewish identities through engagement with traditional texts and the intellectual, emotional and spiritual meaning behind them. Students express themselves creatively, developing a Jewish identity that is authentic. Students are encouraged to share their ideas and thoughts about their Jewish learning. From reading and writing in Hebrew, to daily prayer and Torah text study, to exploration of Jewish holidays and traditions, fourth graders apply their Hebrew language and critical thinking skills to deepen all aspects of their Jewish learning. Instruction is almost exclusively in Hebrew for all Jewish subjects and students are encouraged and supported to participate in discussions and share their written ideas in Hebrew. Text study, partner work and in-depth discussions are enriched through teacher-led songs, games, stories, and arts integration, giving fourth graders a wide variety of access points for learning and engagement. As they begin their journey towards adolescence, students are nurtured in the process of developing their own unique personal connections to Torah learning and Jewish traditions.
